Special Education Licensure Only
The Lake Erie College online licensure only program prepares teaching professionals to have an in-depth knowledge of interventions, strategies, curriculum and research to support students with mild to moderate disabilities in a variety of inclusive settings. These courses (18 semester hours if a student has 12 hours of reading completed) are designed for already licensed teachers, or those eligible for licensure, who wish to add their mild to moderate intervention specialist license (K-12). All courses in this one-year program are available asynchronously completely online and run every 6-7 weeks, allowing you to focus on each course one at a time. 50 total hours of field work are required and are spaced throughout the courses using your current students, or placements you select. Official transcripts from all institutions attended
A degree in education from an accredited institution
Prior to the program, candidates must have passed a pedagogy exam (Praxis or OAE).
Prior to, or concurrently, candidates must have 12 semester hours of reading (including a course in Phonics). The reading courses are also offered online at LEC (EMR 501-505).
Lastly, before Lake Erie College can sign off on a new license, candidates must pass the OAE Foundations of Reading #190 AND the OAE Special Education Content #043 exams (these are typically taken after coursework is completed)
